UGG Australia - Design for a Cause

I have recently been contacted by a lady from Talenthouse, a company which helps young artists and designers collaborate with big company's. I was asked to design an Ugg Boot which, if I won, would be produced and sold across America to raise money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

New bits and pieces.

I have recently spent two weeks on a work placement with George at Asda in the Girls department. I loved it! Everyone was so nice and it was really fun to get back into designing, I have been doing some small doodles and drawings over the summer but nothing too serious. So I found this really encouraging to get back into things. All of the designing was made on the computer and this is not something I have felt comfortable with before, as I have always felt more at home with hands on designing. The placement has encouraged me to work more with digital techniques and I have been working with this at home, trying to maintain my hand drawn illustrative style.

Bags for Charity!

Last year I made my family some printed tote bags as Christmas presents using my designs from my projects at the time. One of my Aunts liked hers so much that she asked me to make more so she could sell them to raise money for the cancer unit in the Clinic that she works in. I am currently recycling old prints and designs but am planning on expanding the range of imagery if they prove to be successful and I can find a place to re-coat my screens! These are some of the bags, just before posting them.

Graduate Exhibition

Finally after going backwards through my second year work I have returned to the present with some images I have been meaning to upload of my Graduate Exhibition at the AUCB. I really liked how my work was displayed, although it was not something the students were very involved in as our tutors took on a curator role to make sure the exhibition was displayed to a high standard. I feel that there are some pieces that I would of displayed rather than some others that I personally did not feel were very successful, but, overall I felt that my space looked really professional and worked well with the exhibition as a whole.

More second year work.

For my final project in second year I created a collection of whimsical fabrics based around British Wildlife. This was for a spring/summer outcome and I really wanted to accentuate some of my illustrative abilities by combining pattern with detailed placement prints.I took alot of inspiration from Miu Miu and Paul and Joe for this, especially their Spring/Summer 2010 collections.

Pattern and Prints from Second year

I thought I would go back over past work and sort through ideas that I think worked well but could do with some more work, after completing my degree I realise that although my work was good in the second year I did not produce enough of a range of pattern and scale for a whole collection. I really like some of the pieces though and would like to revisit these and incorporate them in new collections.
The samples above are from a collection where I collaborated with Fashion Students to create a collection and also fabrics from them to turn in Jackets, I think this worked quite nicely, I was given the brief of working with the idea of light and dark so looked at wings and the delicacy of them.

These images are of the final jackets, my role was to dye and manipulate the fabrics with an emphasis on beautifully printed lining, giving a contrast between the dark outer fabric and intricate pattern on the inside.

Extended Major Project hand-in

I haven't posted on here for a while, have been very busy recently with New Designers end of year show and graduation! I have been trying to organise myself in this time by sorting through everything I would like to post on here from past and current work and inspiration. I shall post all of my graduate project and then go over anything I may of missed from my past pieces. These are just a few pictures from my final hand-in.

Here is a selection of final photographs from my EMP, 'English Heritage,' collection. One set was taken in a studio using a model and the other on location at Norwich City wall. I think both work well and show my collection in a more diverse manner.

Sample Planning

Here are some photos of all of my samples together as a collection, I like to do this in a project to see how the collection works together and see what needs to be added. This is just a development step, so the samples are not as neat as they will be in the final collection.

More design work from my Extended Major Project.

This project was based around the idea of English Heritage, I took inspiration from places such as castles and cathedrals, and researched into medieval heraldry and images.

Extended major project

Some images from my EMP, i have been scanning in my samples and using photoshop to apply them to the body. Just some simple sketches but shows how the fabrics could be used as a garment.

Specialist Profesional Practise

These are a few images from my SPP Unit which was my first project from this year. I chose to research the habitats of birds and their surroundings. I focused on British birds and explored how I could incorporate cultural identity into my work in a subtle manner. I achieved this by using Arne RSPB site as my main source of visual research and looking at British textile manufacturers and designers to understand how my work would fit in the industry.
